Hayden Martin fell in love with the game of basketball at a very young age. He drew inspiration from watching highlights of NBA greats like Kyrie Irving and LeBron James. Now a 6’2” senior at Lampeter-Strasburg High School in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Martin is stepping into the spotlight with one clear mission: to lead, uplift, and push his team back to the state championship.

For Martin, basketball has always been about more than putting up points. While his goal this season is to average around 20 points per game, his focus extends beyond personal stats. “I just want to be a better teammate, get more assists, and help us go further than last year,” he says. After a tough first-round exit in last year’s state playoffs, Martin is hungrier than ever — not just to win, but to help everyone around him rise.
Naturally a shooting guard, Martin often shifts to point guard when his team needs stability or energy. “I see myself as a playmaker,” he explains. “Someone who can get others involved and make the game easier for them.” Coaches looking at Martin will find exactly that: a versatile guard who can do everything, from facilitating the offense to scoring in rhythm and motivating his teammates on and off the court.
His dedication in the classroom mirrors his focus on the court. He prides himself on his strong GPA, knowing that academic excellence fuels his basketball ambitions. That balance of athletic and academic commitment has also helped him connect with college coaches through Next College Student Athlete (NCSA) as he continues his recruiting journey. His dream school is Duke — a program known for its culture of discipline, intensity, and team-first mentality — though he’s also drawn to opportunities closer to home, like Penn State.
This past summer, at the High School All-American Showcase in Philadelphia, Martin had one main goal: to showcase his playmaking abilities and gain exposure to scouts and coaches. By all accounts, he did exactly that — blending poise, vision, and leadership that stood out among the competition.
As he prepares for his senior season, Martin’s purpose is clear: to grow as a leader, elevate his teammates, and make a statement that hard work never goes unnoticed. “Coaches can expect someone who’s always going to push others and do whatever the team needs,” he says with quiet confidence. From the playgrounds of Lancaster to the bright lights of showcases, Hayden Martin has proven one thing time and again — he’s not just chasing the spotlight. He’s earning it.
