Currently, the world has many talented young players, but one of the Class of 2027 is already
getting recognized as a player to watch. Chaz Perry, a 5'11" guard, is very friendly and has
already established a new standard for "dream chasing" by being consistent and putting his
heart into it. I got the chance to analyze a one-on-one interview with him about his path, ambitions, and the motivation behind never giving up is not only on the court but also in life.
Early Beginnings
For Perry, basketball is not merely a sport but rather a lifestyle that he has been living with the
game all the time. He revealed, “I have always played basketball, most likely I started doing it when I was five years old.” “I am just wishing to go to the next level by means of basketball.”
This bond with the sport since childhood has given rise to a player who realizes that success
takes time, growth, and patience.
Evolution of His Game
Adapting to various positions has been a main contributor to Perry’s growth.
“I was the tallest in my class during the eighth grade, and that is why I played the center
position,” he shared. “But after that, my growth slowed down a bit, so I had to change from
playing center to guard. Now, I believe that I can play at any position on the floor if I want to.”
The ability to switch positions is one of the main reasons his game keeps getting better. Be it
ball handling, shooting from far, or focusing on defense, he takes pride in being a versatile
player who can help out in any area of the court.
Inspirations and Role Models
Perry’s basketball idols are both global and local when it comes to his inspirations.
“The NBA player I like the most is Giannis,” he said with a big smile. “But the college player I like the most is Seth Trimble because he is from my school. I admire him, I wish to be the one next to come out.” That link to his hometown makes his trip even more meaningful; he plays not only for himself but also for the people who are watching him from the place he started.
Showcasing His Skills
During the High School All-American Camp, Perry got a chance to measure his abilities by
competing with the elite players.
“I sincerely wished to highlight my control over the ball and my defense,” he remarked. “My
handling of the ball during the transition could have been better, but I think I displayed my
shooting and scoring.”Such self-awareness distinguishes him from other players who acknowledge his development but are still on the lookout for improvement avenues.
Goals and Mindset
The new season has already started, and Perry knows what he wants to work on first.
“I am currently part of the second unit, but I want to be in the starting lineup by the time of the
fall league,” he mentioned. “As a matter of fact, I played really well during the fall game that I
just had today, so my desire to be a starter is growing stronger every day.”
However, getting that spot is not going to be easy, but he is already working hard on it. He is
mixing several sessions with his former AAU coach, happening on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and
Saturdays, which include working on his shooting, cardio, and ball-handling drills. Thus, he is
getting ready for any opportunities that might come his way.
Dream School and Future Goals
Perry’s response to the question about his dream school was instant: “UNC.”
He has not been to any of their games in person yet, but still, he is a fan from a distance and
appreciates the vibe and culture of the program. His ultimate aim? To play basketball in college and take his unstoppable hard work to a higher level.
“A coach who takes me in his team should be ready for my work ethic, my vigorous defense,
and my smart plays,” he said with strong assurance.
What’s Next
Perry is creating the base for future developments with each workout, game, and occasion to
elevate himself. At each step, from trying to be in the starting line-up to achieving his goal of
going to college basketball, he is aware that it is all about being persistent.
In his own words, "My goal is simply to reach the next level."
Nonetheless, with his commitment, modesty, and ambition, it is just a question of time until he
achieves it.
