Class of 2028 | Pope John Paul II High School | 6’0” Guard

At just four years old, Parker Hoch-Wienczek picked up the game of basketball and hasn’t put it down since. Basketball wasn’t just a sport; it was a way of life. Now a sophomore at Pope John Paul II High School, the 6-foot guard is proving that his passion, discipline, and work ethic set him apart from other players long before the spotlight finds him.

“ Since picking up a basketball, I fell in love with the game.”

The commitment to basketball had already taken place at a young age for Parker, and taking him places others would only dream about. At 12 years old, Parker traveled overseas to London to compete in Pro Skills Basketball, gaining valuable international experience. A year later, at 13, he made national spotlight by earning a Top 3 finish at the NBA Skills Challenge, which earned him an invite to the NBA Draft– a once-in-a-lifetime experience and opportunity for any young athlete. These experiences Parker has gained have shaped his approach to the game, hungry, focused, motivated, and ready to prove why he belongs.

This year Parker had to chance to compete in the High School All-American Showcase in Philadelphia. Though he acknowledges not being the biggest, fastest, or strongest player on the court, his IQ and hustle help set him apart from the other players.

“ I try to do everything — defend, rebound, pass, hustle,” Parker says. “As a sophomore, I know I might not score the most points, but I can still make a big impact. My goal is to be a great teammate .”

A huge part of Parker's identity as a player is doing the dirty work. When asked about his personal stat line goal this season.

“I want to take charge every game,”.

This shows Parker’s grit and determination to not just be a factor on the offense side of the court, but willing to sacrifice his body for the betterment of the team.

Parker’s favorite player is Luka Dončić, a choice that makes perfect sense.

“I love Luka’s flow and his game,” Parker explains. “

That same flow Doncic has is something Parker is looking to develop for himself, also. He’s constantly working to sharpen his shooting and ball-handling, especially after facing full-court pressure during the showcase.

“Players were pressing us hard, so I realized that’s something I really have to improve,” he says.

Each day after school, Parker heads to open gym from 4–6 p.m., and on off days, he’s outside putting up shots on his home court. When he’s not on the hardwood, he’s in the weight room, building strength and endurance to prepare for tougher competition.

Parker's aspirations of playing college basketball are clear; his dream schools are Duke and Villanova programs, known for discipline, teamwork, and heart, all traits that mirror Parker’s approach to the game.

Parker Hoch-Wienczek isn’t chasing hype — he’s building habits. From overseas experience in London to a national showing at the NBA Skills Challenge, his journey already tells the story of a player defined by grit, growth, and love for the game.
