For David Harmon, basketball isn’t just what he plays; it’s something that he was born into.
Harmon started playing basketball at a very young age, at the YMCA level, where it quickly became clear he was different. Coaches and spectators called him a “natural good player” who understood the flow of the game at a young age. Basketball runs deep in Harmon’s family; his grandfather played professional basketball, and his father played for a while before becoming a basketball coach. From the start, the game was woven into who David is.

Now a 6’2” senior forward at Groves High School in Garden City, Georgia, Harmon has been on varsity all four years of his high school career. While his freshman season included time observing and developing with the JV squad under Coach Kevin Evans, that year laid the groundwork for everything that followed. Learning the pace of the varsity level, understanding team culture, and absorbing coaching early helped Harmon mature into the player and leader he is today.
That relationship with Coach Evans has extended far beyond the regular season. Harmon has participated in every one of Coach Evans’ summer league basketball programs, using the offseason as a time to sharpen his skills, raise his intensity, and compete at a high level year-round. Those summers helped mold him into a versatile forward capable of impacting the game in multiple ways.
Serving as a team captain, he embodies the responsibilities that come with leadership, accountability, and setting an example every time he steps onto the court. Capable of playing both small forward and power forward, Harmon brings physicality, energy, and toughness to every possession. Harmon’s game is fueled by the players he looks up to. His current favorite player is Lebron James, whose leadership and all-around impact inspire his approach. He also closely admires the explosiveness of rising NBA star Anthony Edwards. This blend shows up in Harmon’s play through his willingness to score when needed, defend at a high level, and compete on every play.
This past fall, Harmon participated in the HSAA showcase in Atlanta, Georgia, an experience he described as both fun and motivating. On that stage, his goal was to show who he is as a player. He wanted coaches and scouts to see the intensity he brings, his strong defense, and his ability to score within the flow of the game.
Groves High School is off to a bit of a slow start this season, so Harmon wants to do his best to help them turn it around. His personal goals for the rest of the season are to record his first dunk of the season as well as score 20 points in a game. By the end of the season, he wants to average 10-12 points per game, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks, reflecting his all-around impact on the court.
To maintain peak conditioning, Harmon has always competed in track and cross country, using those sports to build elite endurance and mental toughness. His dedication has paid off, earning multiple first- and second-place medals, and giving him a physical edge that shows late in games. That stamina translates directly to the court, where his motor rarely slows down. His work ethic hasn’t gone unnoticed. During his junior season, Harmon earned the Most Valuable Player award, recognition of both his production and his leadership. Off the court, his routine reflects discipline and balance — study hall after school, an hour in the weight room, an hour-long workout, and competitive scrimmages on Thursdays and Fridays. Harmon is respectful, accountable, and deeply passionate about basketball, traits that coaches value just as much as talent.
Looking ahead, Harmon hopes to continue playing basketball at the college level. While he doesn’t have a dream school in mind yet, he prefers staying close to home in Georgia, though he will keep all options open. Whichever school he lands at will be getting a player who thrives on intensity, takes extreme pride in his defense, and can contribute in whatever way his team needs.
David Harmon isn’t chasing attention — he’s earning respect. Grounded in family legacy, driven by hard work, and committed to growth, he’s steadily carving out his own path, one possession at a time. And as the season unfolds, don’t be surprised if his impact continues to grow far beyond the stat sheet.
